cable gone
I just downgraded my cable to its lowest form to save a little cash and I'm sort of sick of tv anyhow. the saddest part is I can no longer make fun of my parents for not having espn2, mtv, or tnt. I'm now back from NYC where I was visiting wonderpanther, walltack and some friends. I had lots of fun. Yesterday I went to Buffalo to visit my cousins. One thing that was weird was that they told me to show up between 12 and 1, so I drove 1.5 hours and came at about 12:30 or so and 2 of the 3 weren't around for another two hours. The father apparently got caught up at work (good excuse) and the other was playing tennis with his friend or something (lame one). Other than that, they were nice and I had a decent time all around. I better get back to browsing the web for jobs. | | Friday, May 5th, 2006 | | 12:44 am |
Yo
I haven't updated this thing in forever, but I guess it's warranted since (hopefully) the end of my studies is drawing near. Well, I handed in my thesis Tuesday and was able to set the date for June 7 - just barely. Really I missed the deadline but they decided to let me do it anyway. That was really the only time I could defend that my Dad could come, and as it turned out, would have been tough (or impossible) for the committe members any other time. What made it especially tough to get it in was not being able to get in touch with one of the committe members who happened to be ill. It all worked out though, so now I just need to prepare and hopefully I won't get any questions I don't know. | | Thursday, September 22nd, 2005 | | 10:52 pm |

I'm back
I'm back in the lovely town of Rochester after twelve days in the mountains of northern Italy for what they call Summer School. I got back last night from a nice 24 hours of traveling through confusing airports, especially the one in Milan where there's a pre-check in before the real check in, and they ask you like three times whether you packed your own bag. For god sake, my mommy wasn't with me. Who the hell do you think packed it? Anyway, The hotel resort was beautiful. The view was unreal. I learned a lot and the people I met were pretty cool. There were about 60 students there from all over. There was a lot of class time but still a lot of down time as well. The resort was realy isolated from civilization, so there wasn't a lot to do as far as going out at night. We had a few excursions though- Florence and some smaller towns. Now I have to get used to not drinking wine at every meal and eating pasta every meal. Seriously, we ate pasta twice a day. Not that there's that much variety to my diet here in Rochester which pretty much consists of tuna sandwiches. Dinner at the resort was always this four course meal that took like two hours. It was good but got tiring after a while. So on the whole, it was a good experience. I better get some unpacking done while I'm still conscious. | | Thursday, June 23rd, 2005 | | 9:44 pm |
things
My parents and little sis shiraflora visited last Sunday. It was nice to see them. My Dad asked what the word "bitchslap" meant, which was kind of funny coming from his mouth. Apparently he was on a tenure committee and one of the student recommendations used the word in an expression like "the person goes out to have a bitchslapping good time". This letter alone almost caused him to be rejected but didn't. Other than that, I'm in theory getting ready to go to Italy for a "summerschool" program for graduate students and young scientists for about 12 days. The fact that they call it summerschool makes me think that I failed something. I guess that's because in high school that was the only reason people went to summerschool. Anyway, that should be fun. | | Friday, June 3rd, 2005 | | 7:46 am |
moving
I threw most of my furniture, sofas and bed mainly, to the curb last night and slept on a futon in the living room. I woke up and noticed my sofa was flying 20 feet above the ground. I sat up and saw that a crane was picking up the furniture and trashing it. Anyway, it's all gone now. I'll be in the new place living sans roommates this weekend. It'll be nice. I got my pops to cosign for the new place since I'm a poor graduate student. I'm taking my friend's old place who's up clearing his stuff out at the moment. I did all the paperwork yesterday with Paul including photocopying my driver's license for identification. Otherwise, they might confuse me with a large black man (my friend). | | Tuesday, April 19th, 2005 | | 9:45 pm |

watching football
I think my head hurts from watching football today. I think listening to comentators makes me stupider as well. It's a bad time for this because I'm supposed to be writing something coherent for my proposal, which I'm just starting to write. Anyway, maybe it would help to turn off the TV, but it's hard especially when I'm hanging around my place on the weekend. Anyway, I also had a Jewish christmas and went with a couple friends to a movie and then Chinese. The Chinese restaurant looked like the local synogogue crowd, so we played the game, guess who's Jewish. It wasn't too hard though. Basically, anybody non-asian was a pretty good bet. We saw Ocean's Twelve, which was decent, not great. I notice that there are like a million sequels in theater's now (Meet the Fockers, Elektra, etc.) Well, I'm looking forward to going to Boston for New Year's and then skiing with my family in Vermont. I hope everyone's having a fun holiday weekend. | | Saturday, December 11th, 2004 | | 11:48 pm |
Sorry about Matty
I'm sorry wonderpanther that you had to put Matty down. That's sad. I'm sure your boss doesn't think you're fragile. He probaby just felt like a dumbass for being insensitive. Anyway, I'm back in Rochester after a grueling but relatively productive ten days in Boulder Colorado working in a lab there. It's nice to be back. I spent the day watching America's top model marathon, a show which I had never seen. It was actually pretty interesting. The challenges were creative. I particularly liked the one where they made the models run up 14 flights of stairs and then have a photoshoot while they were still basically out of breath. Shooster (I forgot your livejournal name) and wonderpanther- Good luck with finals!! |
